Feast of the Guardian Angels

From the Word of the Day

“See, I am sending an angel to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.”  (Exodus 23: 20)

How should we live this Word

This Word of God is addressed to Abraham as he journeys to the Promised Land according to God’s will and grace.  Christian theology tells us that God has provided the protection of angels for us as well.  We have the consoling certainty that on the road of life, God’s provident love has entrusted us to an Angel to guard our steps, to help us to discern the good, to choose it, and to want it.  For us too, there is a ‘place prepared’.  Aside from the metaphor, there is a state, a totally new and happy way of being forever.  It is called Paradise.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will thank the Lord for the gift of the Angels, our companions who are pure spirits.  I will thank Him for my Guardian Angel and be aware of this presence in my life, guiding and guarding me along the right path.

Lord, grant that I may be attentive to my Guardian Angel, to the inspirations and whisperings in the depths of my heart leading me ever more into Your will of salvation.
