Feast of the Birth of Mary, Mother of Jesus

From the Word of the Day

“And they shall remain, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth; he shall be peace.”

                                                       (Micah 5: 3-4)

How should we live this Word

Micah the Prophet presents us with horizons of great serenity on this feast of the birth of the Mother of Jesus and our Mother.  All prevarications, litigations, usurpations, wars, earthquakes, and all that arouses anxiety and provokes fear and terror will be ended.

This beautiful earth where the creatures of the mineral, vegetable, animal, and human world compete in making it pleasurable, will finally be a safe habitation.  Relationships and living together will mature the fruit of a love that is respectful, serene, and peaceful.  The text of Micah leads us to understand that this will happen because the promised Messiah, Christ the Lord, will Himself be our Peace.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will reflect on this very consoling certainty and I will penetrate its vital consequences.  If the great Director of universal and cosmic peace is the Lord Jesus, how important it is that our earthly existence be lived in a life style where peace truly becomes possible in Him and through Him.

Lord, please be my Peace this day and in all my days.  With the help of Your Mother and mine, I will live the precept of love. Thus reconciled with everyone and each one, I will contribute to the building of a world where peace becomes the true good of every person.

The voice of Fr. Oreste Benzi

The tie Jesus has with His Mother is unique in depth because it is not on the level of flesh and blood, but on the level of listening to the Word and incarnating Him.
