Seventh Thursday of Easter

From the Word of the Day

“I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”

                                                        (John17: 26)

How should we live this Word

These words close the prayer of Jesus, a true heritage of unspeakable value for us. Jesus attests that He has spent the time of His mission in making God known as the origin of all.  He has shown us that God is a Father of infinite dedication and tenderness, the source from which He Himself sprung in the power of the Love-Person that binds the Trinity in the union of Three in One.  The revelation now is that Jesus wants to make us know fully God’s will.  God is substantially love, and desires this love in us as well, rendering present the person of Jesus.  It is precisely Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life who gives meaning, sustains, and directs our existence.

In our society today in which people feel they are totally alone, immersed in an incommunicability that freezes their days, how providential areJesus’ words of divine promise.

A young person confided, ‘I have understood that I live if I love and if I do not love, my life is a mask on a walking corpse.’

This is so true!  We can seek and obtain many things that bring immediate euphoria, money, power, fame.  But without love all is a mirage that under the trial of contradictions, sickness, failures, soon fades.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will reflect onJesus’ words and draw comfort and strength from them.

Lord Jesus, I ask that with the help of Mary, the Mother of love, You root me in Your Word that reveals to me the infinite tenderness of God.  Make space in the most hidden recesses of my heart.  I want to live because I love.

The voice of John Paul II

Humans cannot live without love.  They remain incomprehensible to themselves if they not revealed by love, if they do not experience it or do not participate in it.
