Last Thursday of Ordinary Time Thanksgiving Day

From the Word of the Day

“When you see these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.”

                                                 Luke 21: 28

How should we live this Word

Jesus, the Son of Humanity, came to free us from every obstacle to the fullness of Life.  The Kingdom of God has already conquered the world.  Yet for it to enter fully, Jesus reveals a period of great disturbance and suffering for all of creation as a prelude to glory.  Only the Cross can illumine all of history and even the last day, the climax of the journey toward the Father.  He has never been far.  He revealed His nearness in Jesus, saving us with His death and resurrection.  He is present today in our prayer, in the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, in the friends associated with Him.  He will come for the third time at the end of the world.

Blessed are those for whom it will be a long awaited encounter.  It will be the fulfillment of every desire, the response to every suffering and to every question.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will seek to open myself to the Father’s great plan for me, the call to participate in His glory in the Kingdom!

Lord Jesus, You are the Way that leads to the Father.  I entrust my earthly pilgrimage to You.  Make me grow in the loving and trustful wait for endless Life with You.

The voice of Henri J. M. Nouwen, Spiritual Guide

We can drink the cup of suffering and of joy only when it brings us health, strength, freedom, hope, courage – new life.  We can drink it only when it is the cup of salvation.
