From the Word of the Day

“The Lord of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of Jacob.”

                                                                 Psalm 46

How should we live this Word

Today’s Responsorial Psalm helps us grasp the joyous awe of the truth that God, the Most High, the Creator and Lord of all has come to dwell among us, has planted His tent in our midst.  He has become like a nomad who moves with the flock from place to place, seeking green pastures for it, and preventing it from wandering aimlessly.  Perhaps the image is less real for us today but if we ponder more deeply, it leaves us breathless.  God does not disdain to come where we are, following us into the various places where evil tempts us and leads us into slavery.  We are like sheep wandering far from the sheepfold, a prey to the best seller, the most convincing ideology.  We remain without scruples, lost and insecure.

But God follows us and stands in the breech at the crossroads of our streets.  How often we pass God by, too hurried and distracted to notice Him.  We are lost in our solitude and crushed by our problems.  Perhaps we have lost the meaning of the words, ‘this is my Body…This is my Blood… this is my life given for you.  Behold, I am with you until the end of time.’  His presence among us is no longer a cause for marvel.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will adore our God who has chosen to remain in our midst and I will thank Him.

My Lord and my God, I thank You for Your constant and loving presence.  Help me to be aware and grateful as I go about my day.

The voice of Mother Maria Candida of the Eucharist, Carmelite

May your holy awe before Your Eucharistic God be ever renewed.  The Lord’s Body is there!  There too is His beautiful Heart all aflame!  There is His immense Soul, a sea of light and holiness!  Our daily Communion gives us all this.  It is enough to make us crazy with love!
