Our Lady of the Holy Rosary

From the Word of the Day

“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”

                                                          Luke 11: 23

How should we live this Word

The Pharisees are always ready to accuse Jesus. They even came to the point of saying that He cast out demons through the power of the prince of demons! The Lord silences them with the reminder that He has overcome the evil one with the ‘finger of God’ and establishes God’s Kingdom of love in the midst of humanity.

In order to emphasize this reality of light, Jesus asserts the truth that is its consequence. Only those who are untied to Him live an upright life. Those who remain far from Him through choosing what is not in keeping with His teachings are actually choosing to be against Him. This means being against the Way of goodness, against the Truth, and against His Light, against Life itself. Wandering far from Jesus and His Gospel means wandering on the roads of death. Attempting to gather good things without Him in fields where Jesus has not sown but the evil one, the father of lies and false promises, means losing oneself. One’s talents are dissipated and we are as the branches cut off from the vine, without lymph and without fruit.

There are persons who do not profess to be Christians, but are honest and sometimes even more so than others who go to Church. Certainly there are those who without declaring they are Christians show themselves upright in their families, at work, in society. They reveal the divine seed that fructifies when it finds fertile soil, showing how they are grafted into Christ though unconsciously because of the rectitude of their hearts.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will profess my belonging to Christ and ask Him to let this be truly so in my every thought, word, and action.

Lord, keep me united to You, I want to live Your Word completely in my daily life with the help of Your grace. Keep me on Your way and not that of appearances, through the help of Mary whom we remember in a special way today as Queen of the Rosary.

The voice of Bishop Oscar Romero, Witness

There are many Christians in their souls who do not know the Church and are perhaps better than those who belong to the Church.
