Fourth Wednesday of Easter

From the Word of the Day

The Word of God continued to spread and grow.

                                       Acts 12: 24

How should we live this Word

It is interesting to note that the only important thing is for the Word of God to grow and spread.  The Word contains all that is needed.  It is truly a good seed.  The seed is not the fruit but the seed bears the fruit.  In today’s Gospel, Jesus Himself explains the value of the seed of His Word (John 12: 44-50).  It is like the light that indicates the way, helping us to distinguish good from evil and arousing in us good desires while extinguishing evil ones.

The Word is eternal life which does not only refer to life after death but also to this earthly life.  In fact, obedience to the Word is eternal life, the fullness of life, of energy, of joy, of peace already here and now.  The Word leads us to the knowledge of the Father.  It is not so much an intellectual knowledge as rather one of communion.  Deeply listening to the Word means entering into intimacy with the Father and feeling oneself loved by Him.

Today as I pause for silent contemplation, I will ask that listening to the Word each day may become for me communion with the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit.

Lord Jesus, grant that I may listen to You, speak of You, and show You to the world.

The Torah is Israel’s treasure.  It is the way of life.  It is the way to enter into communion with God.
