GOOD FRIDAY

From the Word of the Day

You say I am a king.  For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.  Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.

John 18: 37

How should we live this Word

With what power and majesty Jesus pronounces these words during His trial!  His sovereignty is completely different from that of the powerful who exercise dominion over nations at the service of their own interests!  Jesus’ assertion of His kingship and of being a witness to the truth is one and the same thing.  Those who follow Him and listen to His voice are in the truth and come to the light.  To follow Jesus, to adhere to His person and His message is an upward journey toward the sun, the light, but it is fatiguing.  At the end, there is the radiant light of the Resurrection.

This is the meaning of the Cross and of the Crucified.  Heaven and earth are once more united in the Body of Jesus Christ.  Life once again blossoms as in the Garden of Eden.  The river of water and blood that flows from Jesus’ heart regenerates everything and washes away all ugliness.

Today as I pause for silent contemplation, I will live the silence of standing beneath the Crucified.  I will thank Him with my whole being for having indicated the road of truth to me with its life and joy that are the beginning of eternity.

O Jesus, crucified for love, grant that I may never pass with indifference before Your cross.  Grant that I may enter deeply where Your love calls me!

The voice of Primo Mazzolari, prophet

We commit ourselves to follow Him without looking back, without good-byes, without regrets, without nostalgia for things, without asking where He is and if He can take us.  We follow to the end, without asking Him upon which mountain or which cross we will be able to say our ‘it is consummated’; without asking Him what He will give us for all the things we have abandoned.  If He takes us with Him, if He makes us work, if He sends us like sheep among wolves, with His name in our heart more than on our lips, we will be content.
