Twenty Third Tuesday – Mary’s Nativity

From the Word of the Day

Let me sing of the Lord, He has been good to me.

      (Psalm 61, 10)

How should we live this Word

This psalm is so appropriate for this Marian feast!  Truly, Mary’s heart sang of the Lord’s goodness to her and to all generations from the dawn of creation.  Mary is one of us, yet totally open to the action of grace.  She was immaculately conceived; her foundation is on the holy mount and God loves her immensely.  It was in her virgin womb that Jesus was formed, the One who was to shepherd Israel.

It was to her that Jesus entrusted His new-born church, His disciples.  Thus she would gestate anew to the end of time, the mystical Body of her Son, bringing it to full maturity.  Every person is nurtured in that womb with motherly tenderness.  Everyone is born in her through the will of the Almighty God.

Today as I pause for silent contemplation, I will spend time with Mary asking her to help me to remove whatever mars the image of Jesus in me.

How beautiful and consoling it is to call Mary ‘Mother’!  This shows me the infinite love of Jesus who has given us His own Mother as our sure guide on this earth.  Lord, grant me a filial heart.

Jesus lowers the beautiful plant – Mary- so that you may gather its lovely fruit.  She bends toward you if you call her, if you confide in her.  She wants you to love her Son to folly!
