TRINITY SUNDAY

From the Word of the Day

Those who are lead by the Spirit of God are children of God…and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.

(Romans 8, 14-17)

How should we live this Word

It is not only the intellect that is called into play as it bows in reverence, immersed in the holy fear of God.  In the Old Testament, it caused one to cover the face because ‘one cannot see God and live’.  Instead, our entire existence is called into play and shaped by this sublime mystery.  Here, in particular, our vocation to be in the ‘image and likeness of God’ is rooted. The Trinitarian Mystery is revealed as a God in communion through Love.  Precisely because God is Love, He inserted Himself into our history becoming one of us so that we may find our dwelling in Him. db_44-Trinity_Sunday[1]

The Trinity is the fertile womb from which we come.  At the same time, it is the goal toward which we tend. A home awaits us, a family that has a place prepared for each of us and for all of God’s children.  To contemplate the Trinity is to discover a font of joy in knowing that we are expected from always as a son or daughter who has been gone from home too long.  It is a deep mystery that does not create distances but annuls them.  I am called to immerse myself in this mystery for all eternity, letting myself be grasped by this vortex of love more and more even now.

Today as I pause for silent contemplation, I will quietly reflect on the Trinitarian Mystery.  If available, I will use the icon of the Trinity of Rublev, pausing on that empty space around the table that is mine place!

Blessed Trinity, in Your fullness You have made space for me, almost as though the overflowing of Your Love has need of my littleness, accept my tremor of awe and of joy as a hymn of gratitude.

 The voice of Hèlder Camara

Thank You, my God!  What does it matter that I am a hut if the Holy Trinity is in it.
