ALL SOULS DAY

From the Word of the Day

“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”
                                                                                                John.  6: 40

How should we live this Word

On this day, sacred to the memory of our dear departed ones, it is very consoling to imprint on our hearts this announcement-promise that our bitterest enemy has been overcome.  Jesus had just told us that the Father had sent Him precisely for this, that none of His children entrusted to Him for salvation should go to eternal perdition.
What are we supposed to do so that the Lord Jesus may work His salvation in us?  It is very clear!  We must believe in Him.  We must see Jesus in our neighbor, even those who are not in accord with our way of thinking.  We may not agree with them but we continue to respect them.
We believe in Jesus and in His word in His Eucharistic presence and in my sisters and brothers.  We must see others with eyes of faith, believing through the constant and serene exercise of the mind.  Then we can rest in the certainty that is the secret of peace because it gives meaning to existence.  We will not die forever.  Our eyes will see the Savior and we will enjoy in Him the fullness of an unimaginable and eternal happiness.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will ponder on my death and on eternity.  I will ask Jesus to help me see my daily life as the opportunity to draw closer to Him and allow Him to be my Savior.

Lord, please guard this promise of light in my heart.  Let it be my peace and render me a bringer of peace everywhere.

The voice of St. John Chrysostom, Church Doctor

Let no one cry, no one moan, no one criticize Christ’s work.  He in fact has conquered death.  Why shed useless tears?  Death has become a dream.  Why moan and cry?
